Activities That Teach
Activities that Teach is an interactive and fun workshop aligned to content standards. These disguised learning approaches for new after school staff will engage and excite participants working with elementary school students. Participants will work in small groups and participant in ten (10) Activity Centers based in science, literacy, and math activities. Within each activity are countless variations which participants will share out as additional project ideas at the end of the training. These simple yet academically enriching ideas are perfect when students complete their homework assignments and can be implemented as small or large group activities with almost no cost!
Art Alive
Learn how to create simple art projects that “wow” and how to display and celebrate art through a gallery night for parents and community members. Tell your story by creating an over-sized self-portrait to proudly display in your after school art gallery!
Art-O-Rama
Explore, create, and take your imagination to the next level. Participate in make-it, take-it art centers and uncover how to put away the coloring sheets and discover the artist within you and how to pass it on!
Community Service Learning- Making a Difference
We talk about making a difference but how are we doing this and who is leading the way? There are things you can do every day, big or small, to change the culture of your campus or community. Learn simple things that YOU can do give back and commit to helping the world be a better place, locally or globally.
Everyday Math
Explore how basic math principles can help us in our everyday lives. This interactive session will get you to see math in cooking, games, and more. Your students will rethink asking, "When will I ever need this?"
Full STEAM Ahead
Hop on the interactive STEAM train and get your students engaged in fun, educational and hands-on science, technology, engineering, art and math activities. Go from all-a-bored to all aboard!

After a quick review of ASES guidelines, participants will brainstorm steps for setting up the logistical systems required to successfully operate their after school program. This interactive workshop will allow participants to share promising practices in the areas of Record Keeping and Evaluation; Materials, Equipment, and Space; Staffing; Health and Welfare; Scheduling; Curriculum Development and Planning; and Establishing and Maintaining Relationships.
